Emigrated to SA in the early 30's to go farming.
Attended the Tarkastad Agricultural College in the Eastern Province.
Farmed at Modderfontein and Ermelo until the outbreak of WW2.
Joined the SAAF, seconded to the RAF 1940-1943 Major,RAF bomber command.102 Squadron.
Awarded the DFC in 1945.
Was co-owner of a company called Evans,Barnes and Fitz in East London in the 50's.This company imported Ransomes lighting plants into SA which GAG sold to farmers all over the Eastern Province.
Lived at Bonza Bay,near East London at the time that his parents visited SA in 1949/0.
Later lived at 12 Rosyth Rd,Nahoon,East London.
The Hilderbrand family who farmed near Queenstown were family friends as were Jack and Nath Green of New England,near Barkley East.Their son was Hope Green.
ACG(son) as a little boy used to travel with him when visiting farmers to help with opening the gates.
Later became a senior executive with Oldham and Sons,a UK company manufacturing heavy duty batteries and miner's cap lamps in Benoni ,Transvaal,SA.
Member of the Benoni Country Club where he played bowls and squash.There is a memorial plaque to GAG in the club house.
Memorial service held at St Dunstans,Benoni.
