Fought in the Battle of Blaauberg on 1 Jan 1806 as a 26 year old officer(Colonel?) in the British forces.
He decided to return one day and settle in Cape Town.
On 15 Oct 1817,Edward ,his wife,Ann,and their 4 sons as well as Edward's brother,Robert, boarded a ship,the Queen Elizabeth, in Gravesend and set sail for the Cape.
They arrived 4 months later on 10 Feb 1818.
Edward carried on a business as Farrier and Blacksmith at 2 Roeland Street.The family lived 14 Barrack Street.
Edward married Ann Philips [1417] [MRIN: 479]. (Ann Philips [1417] died on 21 May 1822 in Cape Town and was buried in St. Georges Cathedral..)
