Restored Bristol Cathedral and built one of the many Colston Halls.
Apparently went mad while on honeymoon in Switzerland and was committed to St Andrews Hospital at Northampton.He never came out.
Went to Magdalen College,Oxford and was an architect of some note.
A co-incidence is that in the 1851 Census,Elizabeth Oaten was recorded as staying with Sarah Foster(John's mother) at 4 Park Street,St Augustine the Less,Bristol.

John married Catherine Walkey(Auntie Kate) Gillett [213] [MRIN: 142], daughter of George Gillett LRCP Edinburgh,LSA London. [26] and Eliza Catherine Wakley [27], on 9 Apr 1874. (Catherine Walkey(Auntie Kate) Gillett [213] was born on 29 May 1843 in Colyton, Devon. and died in Sep 1922.)
