  General Notes:

Attended Haileybury and then Charterhouse School in Godalming.
He was commissioned on 23 June 1906 in 2nd Vol Bn The East Surrey Regiment renamed in 1908 as 5th Battalion.
In 1914 he was posted to the 1st 5th Battalion and sailed to India in October 1914.
From November 1916 to October 1917 he was Brigade Major, Nowshera Brigade, on the Northwest Frontier.
He then served as a GSO 3 in the Tigris Defences.
From 1919 to 1920 he served with the 5th Battalion in the South Kurdistan Expedition.He was Mentioned in Despatches in November 1918.After the 1914 to 1918 War he rejoined the 5th Battalion and commanded it from 9 April 1924 until 9 April 1930.He was promoted Brevet Colonel in 1927 and served with TARO from 1930 -1936.
From 1939 to 1943 he was County Army Welfare Officer and from 1943 to 1945 Command Army Welfare Officer,Southern Command.
On 27 January 1947 he was appointed Honorary Colonel of 381 (East Surrey) Anti-Tank Regiment RA(TA).

Chairman of Surrey T.A. and Air Force Assoc.1939-1945 and 1944-1947.
Army Welfare Officer for Surrey 1939-1943.

He was made an OBE in 1947 and a CB in 1949.
He was High Sheriff of Surrey in 1952.
Member of the London Stock Exchange.
Appointed as the second Warden of Whiteley Villiage,near Weybridge in Surrey in 1936.A position he held until 1956.Lived in Fox Oak Cottage.One of the Founding Trustes of Whiteley Homes Trust was William Edward Gillett who was a solicitor in London and advisor to William Whiteley.His son,Sir William Alan Gillett,also a London solicitor, was also appointed a Trustee. Sir (William) Alan married G B Chetwynd-Stapylton's sister,Ella Mabel Chetwynd-Stapylton.

Colonel Granville Brian Chetwynd-Stapylton was born on 19 September 1887.
He was the son of Granville Chetwynd-Stapylton and Elizabeth Routledge
He married Catherine Lyne, daughter of Herbert Lyne, on 14 June 1922.1 He died on 20 January 1964 at age 76.1

- was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1946.
- was Honorary Colonel of the 381 Light Regiment, Royal Artillery (Territorial Army) between 1947 and 1957.
- was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1949.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Surrey in 1952.

Granville married (Kitty) Catherine Lyne [98] [MRIN: 68], daughter of Herbert Lyne [1876] and Mary Jane O'Brien [1961], 14 June1922 in Newport. ((Kitty) Catherine Lyne [98] was born on 22 Aug 1893 in The Shubbery, Newport and died in 1981 in Leamington.)
